The first thing that comes to mind with actuarial exams is commitment and dedication. These are both necessary for individuals seriously considering the FSA / FCAS track.
Over preparation is truly the key to success. It’s also important to believe that you will make it through.
After clearing first three actuarial exams, I have found belief in oneself to be of paramount importance.
Adapt comes in handy when preparing for these exams. Practing mock exams in exam like conditions boosts one’s confidence. The best part about Adapt is that it tells an individual about the sections in which he or she is weak. Therefore, one can prepare accordingly.
I bought the 15-day subscription for exam MFE. But later on, I realized that taking a 1 month subscription would have been a better deal. By God’s grace I successfully cleared MFE recently with a 7!
I would suggest taking mock exams and spacing them out sufficiently in order to learn from one and apply the concepts to another.
There are certain routine activities which really helped me a lot for D-day:
- Taking mock exams at the same time as the scheduled exam time
- Getting used to studying during the exam time slot (Ex : 8:30 – 11:30 a.m)
- Waking up early in the morning on a daily basis so that your body gets used to it (especially if the exam is scheduled in the morning)
- Having a meal an hour before the exam time slot
Also, giving equal importance to every section mentioned in the syllabus and having same degree of proficiency in every section is very important.
The exam preparation process can be challenging at times due to various parameters. But, believing in yourself will always bail you out.
As the saying goes: “Believe in the best, think your best, do your best and things will turn out for the best”.
