Five representatives from the Coaching Actuaries (CA) team attended the 2014 SOA Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida from Oct. 26 – Oct. 29. The theme for this meeting was “Together We Progress” — progress in the profession, progress in business, and progress in society.
Some highlights from the meeting include:
- Great keynote speakers
Adam Steltzner and Madeleine K. Albright were the keynote speakers at the meeting. Steltzner was the lead landing engineer of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover Project. He shared his exhilarating experience working with his team on ensuring the rover vehicle landed safely on Mars. Albright was the first female Secretary of State and the highest-ranking women in U.S government history. We were blown away by Albright’s speech. It was a real privilege listening and learning from both speakers.
- Great people
More than 2,000 brilliant minds from different continents of the world participated in this meeting. We had a great time connecting with fellow conference participants. Congratulations to Tim Cardinal, our partner from Actuarial Compass, who was honored as an Outstanding Volunteer for the year 2014. Thank you Tim for your relentless contributions to the actuarial community!
- Great presentations
Hundreds of industry experts presented on leading edge actuarial topics. The presentations were very informative. One of the CA team members, Ben Kester, gave a presentation during the Technology Section Hot Breakfast. Oh, by the way, congratulations to Ben on becoming the chair of the SOA’s Technology section. We look forward to the exciting work that Ben and his team will bring to the table.
It was a truly rewarding experience attending the meeting, and we look forward to attending next year’s meeting which will be held in Austin, Texas.
